Creating a blog comment policy

Eventually, every blog receives comments that the blogger feels are inappropriate for his or her audience. Each blogger will have different opinions about what is and is not acceptable to publish on his or her blog. The important thing is to remember to communicate that information to your readers by publishing a blog comment policy on your blog.

A blog comment policy can be written in a friendly or professional tone. The content is more important than the tone. In your blog comment policy, include a list of the types of comments that you reserve the right to delete. For example, you might want to delete comments with more than two links included in them (blog comment spam), comments with profanity, or comments that attack another reader.
Your blog comment policy can include any restrictions you want. The purpose is to ensure that everyone understands upfront what could cause their comments to be deleted, so there are no surprises when the time comes that you have to press the delete button.
