How to Use a Vision Board

If you are struggling to get from where you are to where you want to be, a vision board can help you discover your life purpose, identify your goals and clarify your true needs and desires.

A vision board is simply a collage of pictures, images and words that are representative of what you want to do, who you want to be, where you want to live and the people and things you want to have in your life.

When you surround yourself with these images, you begin to attract into your life what you think about.
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Any size bulletin board, tag board or art canvas
  • Magazines, pictures, inspiring quotes
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tacks

  1. Step 1
Gather piles of old magazines, photographs, images and words that inspire you. Self, Oprah, Body+Soul, Real Simple, interior design, travel and health magazines often have many inspiring images and phrases.

  2. Step 2
Cut out images that are representative of the goals you like to accomplish. As you are looking through the magazines, consider all aspects of your life. What would you like to attract in the areas of career, family, relationships, spirituality, money, health, fitness, fun and adventure?

  3. Step 3
Arrange the images on your vision board. Put things into categories if it works for you. Get rid of pictures that no longer fit or feel right. As you look at the images that are representative of your life, how does it feel? Is there anything that is missing?

  4. Step 4
Glue the images to your vision board. Add words or sayings such as your favorite quotes or words of encouragement.

  5. Step 5
Place the vision board in a place where you see it often. Reflect on your vision board every 6-12 months and think about what has occurred. How is your life more aligned with your vision? What hasn't happened and do these things still fit into your vision?

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have many magazines on hand, check with friends, your local library or doctors' offices to see if they have any magazines they are ready to discard

  • Get a group of friends together and have everyone create a vision board

  • Play inspiring music to get your creative juices flowing

That's a good idea - the vision board. Certainly when every day life starts to gobble you up and you feel like you just need to simplify, this would be quite helpful. I imagine that this would be great for de=stressing and relaxation purposes as well! :)
