Wanted To Share This Story

This story came from my church bulletin yesterday:

There is a story about a man named W. K. Powell who lived in Nashville TN, during the years of the Great Depression. This man, unlike many others, had a JOB. One day he came home from work to learn that the washing machine had broken down and would have to be replaced. Along with this, his wife reminded him that school would be starting soon and each of their 5 children needed a new pair of shoes. They looked in the Classified Ads and found a used washing machine for sale. Mr. Powell drove to the address in the fashionable part of town. He knocked on the door and was greeted by a warm and friendly couple.

He stated his business and made arrangement to buy the washing machine. But the couple was so gracious that Mr. Powell found himself telling them some of his troubles, including the part about the worn-out shoes. When he had finished the man led him into a bedroom and showed him a sleeping child. He explained that the child had been born and invalid, had never walked and never would. Then, without bitterness, the man said "we would give everything we have to see one pair of worn-out shoes beside that bed."
When Mr. Powell got home that night, he and his wife thanked GOD for the five pairs of worn-out shoes.

Living in this time of economic uncertainty, it is easy for many of us to slip into a mood of self-pity and begin to feel cheated by life.

The answer: Take a fresh look at the GOOD times in our lives, the things we may have forgotten, things we tend to overlook, and things we take for granted.
It is strange but true, that many of life's greatest blessings come to us brilliantly disguised as problems. When you or I are feeling cheated in life, there is a good possibility that somewhere, somehow and in some form, we have overlooked some worn-out shoes.
