Do any of you have kids?

I have a 4 year old that has been sick now for over a year with congestion. I have taken him multiple times to the doctor and they have tried everything, antibiotics, allergy meds and nothing helps. Well today he is going to an ear nose throat doctor as they said it must be his adnoids. They are thinking he may need surgery to get them out. He is very stuffed up and always breathes through the mouth. I am nervous and was wondering if anyone has had this surgery for their kids and how it went? Thanks in advance

T&A removal is a really safe and quick day surgery thing. WAY back when I was 4 I had mine removed and still remember it as a fun thing :) Now days it is so simple and in and out surgery and the plus will way out weight the negitives. We saw a change in Kassy when she had her done as soon as she woke up. Good luck and stay calm mommy!

Hi Sandi,

I was nervous and he went today to get checked and has tonsils and adnoids so they are trying meds first. If no change then have to go for surgery in a months time.

Hi,My eldest daughter had a T & A removal when she was 5.It was affecting her hearing too...down to 40%.It was quick and easy and she recovered really quickly and has never had any problems since...not even many colds either. However, she still snores REALLY loudly but not as bad as before! We used to have to turn the TV volume up to drown her out!!!So having T&A removal may not solve everything.Have you tried anything more natural/herbal?Perhaps it is allergy related?Hope all works out for you.Keep us posted.

Doc said it was allergy related but he is pretty bad and I don't think the meds are going to help as it is just another allergy med with high dosage of histimine.

My youngest had that surgery. For her it wasn't pretty as they didn't put her to sleep far enough and she felt the whole thing.
She woke up screaming, the nurse came and got me and said none of the other kids are like her and could I quiet her down.
I said did you give her anything for the pain and they said..no???
So got her pain meds.....a few years later she told me she had felt the whole thing....we never knew.......
But that is rare for it to happen, these days they should be much better :)

Hi there...I haven't had to go through this with my kids, but recently had the tonsils out myself as an adult and it's not fun. Much easier for the kids to go through it for some reason.
Anyway..hope your kiddo does ok...stopping by to welcome you to the SITS community :)
